2010 Carpe Diem Concert

At first, I didn't harbour much hope that they will do the dance on stage this year (after last year's experience). First of all, the day before was their Gugu's wedding, we returned home very late, around 12 plus. To make it worse, they had to be up at 6 plus, to reach school latest by 7am. As if that's not enough, En has been having fever prior to this, so her fever has not totally subsided. Therefore, I didn't have too much expectations from her - as she didn't dare to dance on stage for the past 2 years). But I still let them try it out, at the cost of $100+. Why so expensive....2 sets of costumes $38 x 2 = $76. 2 tickets at $36. Plus the DVD which is about $30.

Last year, we bought 6 tickets (plus Grandpa, grandma, gugu and gimgim), but all were wasted. Both didn't dance. The boy just jumped for few seconds and sat on the stage, posing like an Ah-peh throughout...but good thing was he didn't cry.) The girl came out with an axe (props). While her friends were happily performing on stage, she chopped and chopped towards the curtains and suddenly disappeared behind them. (hmm..ok...better than 1st yr when she cried on stage.)

This year, we had a pleasant surprise. Ryan's class is the youngest group, so they came out first. The theme for this year's concert is ' Hello World ', they have different dances from different countries. Ryan's dance is Doraemon (Japan - haa.. Mummy's fav country). The little ones appeared in Kimono, standing behind a Doraemon cut-out. Their costumes are in white and bright red, with a red band, tying around their forehead. When the music came out, Ryan started dancing (and he really stepped from left to right and back all the way). He didn't show any fear ( of cos, he inherited his daddy's dramatism and thick-skin haha). He even stopped to wave to his classmate who was at the audience (cos he didn't participate). We had a great laugh because of his actions. Of course, I tried to video the dance using my cam. But not being a pro, the whole clip was shaky and halfway I had to walk to the side because I couldn't capture him in the clip (2 of his friends danced and moved and moved...).

After the 1st item (Ryan's), I told Papa, at least this year, one of them danced. En's was the sixth item, the anticipation continued while I watched the other items.

Finally, her turn came. She told me her costume is red. When the curtains slowly opened, there were 3 of them wearing red in the middle. From far and at first glance, I couldn't spot her! My cam followed as the curtain opened, until the end of the trail then I realised there isn't any more girls in red. Only the 3 in the centre! So I shifted the focus back to the middle and found my little girl standing there, trying not to be disturbed by her good friend who was on her left. Music started and she danced!! Haha... can't imagine how happy mummy was at that moment. Not that mummy wanted her to be a star, but I thought this showed that she has gained more confidence in herself as compared to previous years. I know my girl has always been very timid and shy. It took her a lot of courage and encouragement from us, to dance in front of a huge audience (strangers somemore). Well done, En en!!
