The Difference Between Girls and Boys

Having a boy and girl really makes me realise the great difference between the 2 genders.
Though they are both our children, why are they sooooo different???

1. Development
Ryan's developments so far have always been faster than his sis, like turning, crawling and walking. The only slower part would be speech development. En en could call everyone by 12 months, say duplicated syllables (da-da, yang yang...) around 18 months and simple proper sentence before 2 years old.

2. Activeness
Since Ryan learns to turn/flip, it has NEVER been easy to change his diapers! Even till now... whenever I need to change his diaper, it's like having a war with him. He would turn over before I could tape that diaper, or stand up and try to get away! Sometimes, giving him a toy or distraction helps, but NOT ALWAYS! I wonder what's wrong with lying down for that FEW SECONDS! En en on the other hand has never given me this problem. She would even lift up her buttocks for me to slide the diaper under her.

En en could sit still and let us read a book to her since 1 year old, that's why she learns a lot. This boy will sit there...maybe for 5 seconds....and starts to move or do other things before I can finish reading one page.

3. Courage
En en has always been timid. She used to be afraid of any unknown noise/sound (people pushing furniture, motorcycles, even dogs... when she still didn't know what sounds they were). She would rather not go into a dark room alone. At home, she would want to see mummy around, if I walk away, she would find me. If she went into the wrong room and couldn't find me, she would complain "I cannot find mummy" (to me when she finally saw me!) There was once when she went into the dark kitchen to drop her milk bottle into the sink and came running out looking frightened. She said there's some sound! It's the sound of her dropping her bottle into the sink!!! We tried not to laugh... hee. When young, she would be frightened when we say 'Ga-ga'...or whatever insects. The boy doesn't seem to be afraid of those things! Today, I killed a lizard, with its tail broken off and still moving. When I went to take the dustpan, he crawled towards the half-dead lizard!

4. Waking and Sleeping Habits
When Enen wakes up and doesn't see me, she would cry for me. (especially when she was younger, but think she is much better now). Sometimes I heard her whined for Mummy in her sleep. The boy wakes up and starts to go exploring about. It's his best chance to touch and meddle with anything within his reach! That's the time when he would mess up the room, whatever is within his reach, would be at a different place when I wake up.

En en needs to touch my arm when she is going to bed. This has been since she's around 1 year old. The minute we lie down, I feel her small hand moving up and down my arm, sometimes it feels good, sometimes itchy. Once when we were in Bangkok hotel, the aircon broke down, no moving air and no fan in the room, I could feel her WARM hand around me, I almost went crazy... her palms and head are exceptionally warm. We always say she is a mobile heater, maybe the heat radiating from her head can cook an egg.... Think her sleeping pattern is more like me, I USED to take a long time before I fall asleep. I need to lie down very long before I become unconscious...sometimes even FEW hours.

Ryan is JUST LIKE DADDY. Daddy can be awake this second and asleep the next. Ryan has not reached that 'level' yet. But he took much shorter time to fall asleep than En en. He would just tossed a few times...find his favourite pose (on his side and head facing 'upwards')...and fall into dreamland.

5. Obedience
As mentioned, En en has been very obedient and follow our instructions. She passed the 'put-everything-into-mouth' stage very very quickly. This little boy seems to do things on purpose, even knowing that he would be scolded or beaten. Climbing up the tables, putting things into his mouth, messing my drawers, pulling his clothes off the racks, touching drainage holes, using the table and sofa as his playground (flipping over like dolphin), using the bed as his racing track... and the list goes on. We think he knows he cannot do it. BUT he still DOES IT!! So... got beaten by daddy... cry for a while...and maybe pretend to be guai for few minutes/hours...

6. Eating Habits
Ryan, though smaller and with fewer teeth, will try to take AS BIG mouthful as he can...no matter what food it is...be it bread, fruit, biscuit and any stuff that we put forth to him. En en is the so-called 'xiao jie', taking small bites. Ryan seems to be able to take spicy food (like daddy)...he has eaten curry rice, otah, bit of chilli... En en doesn't even dare to put anything spicy into her mouth (haha..like me...no...I am slightly better)

I believe I will see more differences in the years to come ...
Moral of this post : Same factory doesn't guarantee all the same products... HA!
