My boy

Ryan's ending pose.

Little thoughts that warm our hearts. 29 Nov 2012

Yesterday, En's childcare teacher, Teacher Is, treated the whole class to Happy Meals. I guess she told them the day before, so she prepared a card to thank her teacher.

When she came home, she kept telling us she has surprise for us all. After a hearty dinner, I thought it was too early for ice cream (daddy wanted), so I went with her to see her practise piano. She has missed two lessons because of the P1 orientation and K2 Graduation Concert.

After 30 minutes of practice, we had our ice cream treat, with cone somemore. When we have finished, En en asked EVERYONE to gather around her. All of us quickly sat down on the carpet, waiting EAGERLY ( so as not to disappoint her...esp when she was so excited). :p
She took out her Happy Meal Box, then the Nuggest packet (empty) and inside were 4 french fries wrapped up. She kept 4 fries for us...how sweet was that, knowing that french fries is one of her favourite food. She fed everyone one fry and left the shortest one for herself. Awwww...

She willingly let Didi play with the toy that comes with it.

25 Nov 2012

We had a long day yesterday - 24 Nov 2012 (Saturday)

It was their school's end of year concert. The kids were sent to school 5 mins before 7a.m.
That's why they were sent to bed at 8 plus the night before.
This year's concert was En's last one, so the whole family went to show our support. 7 of us!

Although this year's dance movement was not as vigourous as last year's , we enjoyed it very much. En was soo happy throughout, smiling all the way, popping her head out to find us during the ceremony (as she was standing in the last row), and kept waving to us.
Gugu was so afraid she could not locate him, even sms me to point to his direction when En looked at us. (Gugu and gimgim were sitting one row behind, slightly further)

Ryan did his part, I like his starting pose and ending pose..haha...got style! He only came out once.. not like the graduating classes.

Will see if I can upload the video... very blur though.

15 Nov 2012

Everyone is sleeping now, except me....

I just put Ryan to bed, lying beside him, sharing his big pillow, snuggling together and requesting for goodnight kiss from him. Of course, not forgetting to tell him "Mummy love you", which he always responds with "I love you."

He is always exceptionally lovable when he is the only one awake (or rather when Jiejie is sleeping) and with mummy squeezing onto the same mattress with him.

Daddy falls asleep after scolding him for not sleeping. Mummy's fault.
I brought home a play-clock to teach them how to read time. He saw it and wanted me to teach him / tell him how to "play" with it. I promised to teach him after I bathed. However, mummy took a bit too long, and it was past bedtime. Daddy scolded him for still being awake.

So I had to coaxed him by telling him what is an hour hand what is a minute hand.

This coming Saturday will be En's P1 orientation.
Daddy 嘴硬心软
Daddy always says he will not attend her primary school events / functions because mummy is there.
But, in the end, when the date is nearer, daddy says he has to go , no choice ?!?
Mummy : "Papa, want to go and see your girl... just say so."

Yesterday, En said, "Mummy, now Ariel, Natacia and I are not best friends already. I change my mind."

I was quite taken aback as these two sweet girls have been her best friends ever since they know one another ! I thought they had a big fight or something !

En continued, " Now, Natacia is Da Jie, Ariel is Er Jie and I am Mei Mei."
Mummy let out a sigh of relief...

About her best friend, Natacia, something bad happened to her family.
Her father was struck down with brain tumour and left the family last week, leaving the mummy with 3 young kids (eldest is only 6 years old) . When I knew about the news, I was quite upset even though I do not personally know her dad. But having children of the same age, I could not imagine what it would be like, if a child, as young as En, lost a parent. We attended Nat's daddy's wake, together with the kids. Even though they said not to bring young kids to wakes. But, being Nat's best friend, En missed her in school and we had been attending each other's kids' BD parties, so it was natural that we wanted to go and pay a visit to the family. When Nat returned to school on Monday, En was elated ! She is one emotional kid. That day, she even told me she felt like crying when practising the Finale for her graduation concert because she knew that she would not see her friends anymore !
OMG... made me want to cry. How on earth could a 6 yr old think of this !? I mean... when I was 6, leaving my K2 friends and moving on to Pri 1, I did not think of those !

Whatever it is, En has to learn that this is part and parcel of life. I tried to cheer her up by telling her ways of keeping in touch with her best friends. Luckily, the mummies added one another on FB and exchanged HP numbers.

10 Nov

It is a quiet Saturday at home I guess.

Papa has to meet his Indonesian client and send my mil somewhere in the evening. So it will be a whole day alone with the two little kids.

They are playing again (sigh) while I cook the porridge (again).
I planned to tidy the WHOLE HOUSE at first... but I think lazy mummy will tidy the CLOTHES first.... :p

Giving old stuff to salvation army donation which has come to our school, so I make use of this chance to tidy up the house. Though I want to clean and tidy the whole house, but time and energy forbid me to do so. I still have work to rush !!

Last night, Ryan was given a good scolding by papa for misbehaving in school. I chose to go and bathe when he was crying, otherwise I will sure become soft-hearted and try to stop papa from beating further.. :p  He deserved la... no choice, to teach him well, I must endure it.

After the chi-cham episode, I bathe him again (after sweating and crying so much). He took out his Chinese story books and read to me, something he likes to do recently. Of course, he cannot recognise all the Chinese words, but he can remember the sentences by looking at the pictures on the page. He enjoys reading. I just had to correct him when he mispronounced certain words.

Gu Shi (story) , he said Bu Shi
Peng You (friend), he said Peng2 You4 (like Ang mo speaking mandarin haha)

While Ryan was reading Chinese story books, I was giving En en dictation. A very impromptu decision. But I realised through this activity, En en can learn many skills at the same time, and I can monitor her too.

I chose a story book that she has read before and picked one paragraph from any page. I did not tell her anything beforehand..haha...I said, take out a book and get ready. Mummy read then you write.
For her, she had to listen to the words that I read, for words she has difficulty spelling, I asked her to listen to the word again and try using phonics ( listening skills and phonics identification). When she was writing, I checked the way she wrote the letters. I don't always sit beside her when she does her work, so I seldom have the chance (and time) to check her formation of letters. I pointed out her mistake (like the way she writes f , d , b) and asked her to redo. I believe she learns the right way, but sometimes, to be fast or lazy, she uses an easy way out which is wrong.

When I read the second sentence, she asked me, "Start with capital letter?". (punctuation and captials)
She wrote the name using small letter earlier, which I pointed out as well.

The paragraph that I read out to her :
One sunny morning, Aurora awoke in the most cheerful of moods. It was her seventeenth birthday and she could not wait to see what wonderful surprises were in store. Luckily, she did not have to wait long.

When  she completed the paragraph, I asked her to read out to me. I taught her how to read with fluency and intonation ( cos of some incident during oral exam in sch, I thought I should start teaching her now). At first, she was not clear nor loud, I told her to read clearly, not skipping the ending sounds (which kids do so frequently).

After a few times, she could even memorise the 3 sentences in that paragraph. I thought it could also help her in sentence structure in future. I was happy with what I did, and I thought I should continue doing it.

Let's see how much she can learn from this.

As for Ryan, he is picking up words from the cards, I am happy that now he is willing to learn to read. Let me see what I can do to Ryan's reading.....

Porridge for Lunch

Yesterday, I cooked porridge with minced pork. I think they were hungry or what, but we finished up the whole pot.

Today, I cooked porridge again, but with sliced pork and sliced beef. Yummy !
Haha..thick skin! But Papa and boy each ate 2 plates. En en ate the porridge, she did not like meat... but I made her eat a bit. Too skinny ! Pi Bao Gu !
