Ryan's 1st Month in Childcare

Finally, little Ryan seemed to have settled down in the childcare. We sent him to Childcare on 16 June 2009. In the first week, I accompanied him as it was his first few days. He would cry whenever I tried to walk away. The scariest part for mummy was to see him cry till his lower face and mouth turned purplish black as he cried and held on to his breath till he was out of breath. On his first day, I left too early (around 11am) because poor mummy didn't have breakfast, so I left centre to buy some food and stuff. I thought he would be fine if he had food (centre's lunch time is 11.30am). However, he cried and refused to eat when the teachers fed him. They tried to give him milk, but he didn't take it too. So teachers called me, I was already on my way back to the centre, thinking that I could put him to bed before I go home. I fed him the beehoon, after which he could still drink the milk. However, he was too tired from all the crying and become very grouchy. In the end, I brought him home to take a nap. His papa said I could bring him back to centre to play for a while after his nap. So I did. He seemed fine as long as I was around.

On the second day, I spent the entire morning with him. I left only when he fell asleep at 12 plus. I returned at 3pm to see how he was, Teacher Dorothy said he woke up at 1 plus, whined a while but was fine after that. Since he didn't see me, I left the centre again. :P

On the third day, it was about the same. That ended Ryan's 1st week in Childcare.

On the following Sunday, Ryan was down with fever. It came back on Monday afternoon, so I got to fetch him to doctor. He was sick for the whole week and didn't get to attend school. He got lung infections and high fever. It was also a tough week, got to bring him to the doctor a few times to review and check. At 1 point in time, the doctor said if the new antibiotics didn't work for him, we got to send him to the hospital. Luckily, the new medicine worked and his fever went down. Phew..

So...after 1 week of absence, we got to start all over again - getting Ryan used to the school routine. At first, he would cry very dramatically when the teacher carried him in. (Mummy could not accompany him in anymore since it's not his first few days... and because of the H1N1 situation, no parents are even allowed to step inside the centre.)

Whenever we go to fetch him, we would hear his teacher's feedback. He kissed a girl in Enen's class... pulled Enen's and her friend's hair.He seemed to be scared of the centre supervisor - Jasmine. Whenever he cried, the teachers would pretend to call for Jasmine, he would stop crying and looked around , as if to see if Jasmine is here.

Basically, his morning cries became lesser, but still cried, whenever he went sent to school. After 2 weeks, he seemed to be familiar with the routine, getting used to it. Last Thursday 16 July, it happened to be Teacher Dorothy on duty at the centre entrance. He didn't hide behind my legs or clung on to me tightly. He walked to Teacher Dorothy who carried him and put him on the chair to remove his shoes, check for temperature and so on. Only then, he started to cry...but only for a while, when he was carried in, he stopped crying. On Friday 17 July, it was not Teacher Dorothy at the door, he hid behind my legs and peeped at the teacher, and decided to sit on the chair outside the centre. Teacher Dorothy came to receive him, when he heard her saying, "Hello Ryan.." he turned and immediately came down from the chair and went in on his own! He tried to take off his shoes. Amazing thing was he DIDN'T CRY at all that day!

WELL DONE! Hahaha...

Reyanne took 1 whole month to get used to the childcare centre. Ryan took only 2 weeks! ( since his 2nd week was spent at home)

Hopefully he will do the same from now on :p
